I read with interest both your articles and the Sentinel's recent article on the fines levied by the City of Winter Springs for removing a tree.    I think it's outrageous that a homeowner can't remove a tree that is posing a danger.

 

Mayor Bush's lukewarm response that he thought the fines "were a little high" tells me he is going with the status quo on this.   Where is the protection for a citizen?   A fine of $3,000 is outrageous!    Do developers have to pay the same for stripping land bare for building?

 

Isn't it a fact that a DUI conviction can get you only a few hundred dollars in fines?   Now, it seems to me that someone who is driving drunk can possibly kill a person.    I never heard of a tree doing that, have you?
