Citizens paid over $5,000 "private funds" for the above "temporary" park. It's the worst piece of property the City could find. All the shade is outside the fenced-in area with the exception of the awnings, and maybe ONE tree. Yep --- this is "Tree City USA" (?). All the trees outside the fence will probably be removed to make room for "football practice fields".
( Fees were paid to the SRI firm was the same firm that was paid a large fee for designing a "paw park" on property not even in the City of Winter Springs. Once again this is a Rotary Club buddy of City Manager McLemore, and his crony Commission members. Even dues to this "for-profit-social-club" is paid by the taxpayers of Winter Springs. SRI receives MANY "no-bid" contracts from the City.)
The City Commission decided to use a new part of the Wincey Property purchase "Scam" to build a
"TEMPORARY PAW PARK".
Shouldn't cost the taxpayers over $50,000, by the time the City finishes, to build it ----- and then tear down this temporary facility ------- when the City can "find" some property elsewhere.
This great " expansion oriented" City hasn't even TRIED to find property for this needed project !
They have no trouble in finding property, to annex to provide multi-housing projects, in order to attempt to build up the "sagging" sales in "Tiny Town". But, somehow, the City is too cheap to find a few acres for a permanent "Paw Park". How long the "temporary" paw park will be on the Wincey property depends on how long it takes the City to finish the park expansion "scam".

All Commissioners, with the exception of Commissioner McLeod, want dog owners to pay for using a City Parks Department proposed Paw Park. Some of the most outlandish and stupid statements were made from the dais concerning the establishment of a "PAW PARK" in the City of Winter Springs. As a "park service" the Commission voted to enforce a contribution from dog owners to use the proposed "Paw Park". Put this in your next vote for Commissioners --
After about a half hour discussion on the "Paw Park" issue, it was decided the owners, promoters, and supporters of the "Paw Park" should pay part of the $15,000 dollars it would cost to open this temporary park. What is so ironic is--- they spent "thousands of dollars" on the architectural firm, SRI, (one of the City's constant no-bid contractors), to come up with plans for a multi-million dollar park, and then toyed around with a mere $15,000 to implement a simple complex. How many thousands did they "GIVE" their "no-bid" buddy at SRI to draw up phony plans for the multi-million park complex at Jetta Point?
But, it only took "FIFTEEN SECONDS" to approve $15,000 for the "Diane Park" project! Was that because that property HAD BEEN ANNEXED INTO THE CITY ? How many times has PFGG stated the City Manager will DO ANYTHING to increase the City's tax base? He needs the revenue to cover up the millions horrendously spent on "Tiny Town" (TownCenter). The City Manager hasn't even had the guts to come back for his "golden-parachute-pension-plan-buy-out" yet.
The Commission chambers was packed with people to speak out in favor of the Paw Park, and even the head of the County's pet park program was there to speak. The City Manager made sure they couldn't speak, however. He placed it under an agenda item where there is no public input. Those people from the Paw Park supporters haven't learned their lesson --- don't trust the City Manager.
"Scrooge" has nothing on our Commissioners. Our City can spend countless millions on questionable park projects, but want to charge you to take your dog to the proposed "Paw Park". The park could be opened very soon in the temporary location for the mere pittance of $15,000, yet we would have to pay to exercise our dogs. Be sure to thank Commissioner Miller for proposing the admittance fees.
We have all been duped into thinking we have a wonderful park system. As we've been informing you of the "Parker Property Bonds" for parks ---- well --- just try and use them --- unless you are a "organization" from outside the City. Winter Springs taxpayers have generously been paying for the park improvements, even though our kids can't just go out and have a pick-up game. Maybe, since Commissioner Miller uses them so much, we, as citizens should charge commissioners for using bathroom facilities, like those he uses behind the dais. If he doesn't have the "paid" stamp on his hand he can't use them.
Have they ever checked the kids using the swings in OUR parks to find out if they live in the City? Maybe we should hire "park patrols" and jail those using our facilities without paying? Better yet, we should hire park rangers to patrol, and make SURE the kids are specially stamped as "paid"! It'd be a sure bet that the money hungry Commission and City management would vote for that. The City Manager gets anything he wants passed on the dais, as long as he has his "three stooges ". One of them made one of the dumbest remarks of his career last night.
Commissioner Martinez said "why do we have to be like other Cities" ? Here's an answer to what you said, Commissioner --- maybe we'd like to be like other Cities because -----

Thinks he's a legal scholar because he's a retired "cop", and "security guard" at a dog track. |

Voted to increased property taxes over 22% in one year, and the budget continues to escalate. |

Promoted a 3.4 million dollar bond referendum that's going to cost the taxpayers another over five million dollars --- plus the 3.4 million of the bond. |

As a director of the THOA, while a sitting Commissioner, supported the ill-fated "TLBD" taxing district. |

As Commissioner, voted for the highest "Service Taxes" in Central Florida. |
|
Help vote in one of the most controversial impacts fees in Florida. Most all of the money goes to the parks for outside organized sports. |
And you're stupid enough to ask the people --- "why do we have to be like other Cities"? I hope the people answer that question in the next election. The influence of the THOA board didn't even work at the Senior Center the other day when they voted. The McGinnis/Martinez/Miller coalition didn't gain a seat when their candidate got the LOWEST number of votes for office in the organization. The people are beginning to understand how they've been duped over the years by the THOA, not only in Tuscawilla, but throughout the entire city.
