Oviedo -- A City with financial planning and responsibility !
Winter Springs should go back to school when it comes to fiscal responsibility. They don't even have a City comptroller. Must be that if the truth was known --- someone of integrity, and licensed in that field would be forced to tell the truth. That would be against Winter Springs financial capabilities!

OVIEDO - The Oviedo City Council has begun mulling the 2005-2006 annual budget, which includes a slight decrease in the property tax rate.
Because the city is bringing in more tax revenue from its growth and a sharp rise in property value, it is considering decreasing its tax rate by a nickel for every $1,000 in property value. Residents now pay about $5.65 per $1,000.
If the proposed budget is passed, a homeowner who has a home valued at $150,000 would pay about $6 less under the proposed change. That figure includes a $25,000 deduction for homeowners who live in the state most of the year.
The city has the power to raise the tax rate by up to 3 percent, which would increase the tax rate in the previous example by $20.
"I feel good I'm in Oviedo," Assistant City Manager Bob Bentkofsky told the Council.
He said the tax base now tops $1.7 billion, 15 percent more than in 2004.
The Council expects to discuss budget issues at its regular meetings during September.
The proposed budget is available online at the city's Web site, http://www.cityofoviedo.net.
