citizens bite THE bullet on winter springs annexations !
Look what the City of Winter Springs is doing to defeat a referendum APPROVED by the voters of Seminole County ! The City SUED the County.
TAXPAYERS PAY FOR CITY MANAGER'S ANNEXATION EGO!
(This was from the May 9th, 2005 agenda. You can't really see the deposition of the results, because the approved minutes of May 9th were approved with NO DISCUSSION.)
The following is the commission agenda item.
"REQUEST; The City Manager is requesting the City Commission authorize a supplement appropriation for the fiscal year 2004-2005 in the amount of $125,000 from the General Fund for Special Legal Services (1220-53119)"
What's missing on the WHOLE agenda item is the fact that the money is for the lawsuit the City filed against Seminole County on an amendment the voters overwhelmingly passed for adoption during the last election. This amendment prevented "Urban Sprawl" as used by Winter Springs to aggressively annex eastern properties such as the Black Hammock, and others on which they allow massive building of condos/zero lot line housing projects.

The taxpayers of the City now pay the City Attorney's office well over $250,000 a year, but yet every time you turn around he's after more money. Like the other case [ Click Here ] that is pending, which in all probability none of the average citizen knows anything about the lawsuit. It's in the category of where the City spent over $50,000 dollars to collect a $50.00 pet fine for violation of a simple City code.
From the results of all the building, and the tearing down of the forests by developers one can assume the Commissioners approved suing the County. They ALL have big egos, and NEED to bring in a population explosion to feed the floundering "Tiny Town" merchants. The problem is they have overlooked parking , and where the additional vehicular traffic is going to find roads to handle the massive explosion. Shoppers should use the parking available at City Hall.
Your City officials egos are bigger than the roads available to handle the traffic arising from the annexations, apartments, condos, zero lot line two story housing, and the commercial developments already on the books. SR434 is the ONLY road through Winter Springs, and that thoroughfare is under the control of the State.
No matter of the outcome of the lawsuit -- the citizens of Winter Springs lose beautiful green lands, your tax dollars, and what you moved to winter springs for --- the urban life style ! All of this only to feed your city officials elegant ego called "Tiny Town".
