A CITY COMMISSIONER SPEAKS OUT !!!
From the March 28th Commissioner Miller Reports section ---
From The City of Winter Springs OWN web site !
"Next, Commissioner Miller added, “Our main issue up there was, ‘Don’t cut the Development Block Grant’ - Community Development Block Grants. That was the number one issue that we were pushing, don’t cut this - it passed through the House, but it passed by 218 to 214 ‘Against’ - passed by four (4) votes. The rest of them are being cut.”
"Furthermore, Commissioner Miller stated, “I think we need to start thinking in terms of how we are going to protect our community to maintain the level of service we are maintaining – right now when all the money has helped us with these Federal programs is no longer going to be around. This is the first year. It is going to get much worse next year ----
( And then the Commissioner continues ) ----
"Our deficit is quite large ---- and getting much larger."
( Please note that the reason for the late publishing of minute facts is that they are not released from the City until the language is approved by the City Manager, and the Commission. There ARE things said they don't want in the published minutes, and then too --- sometimes they GOOF ! )

back to winter springs -----
Who are you going to believe when City Manager McLemore, who says in another breath over the years, that the CITY IS IN FINE FINANCIAL POSITION as he presents his budget for the year supported by his version of the "AUDITED (?)" financial reports -- he freely obtains for public viewing? Who chose the auditing firm ?
Also, when Miller refers to some of the City's financial standing as reported in PFGG's web site five years ago allegations of pending financial problems ----- he stated in an open public meeting --
"I CAN ACCOUNT FOR EVERY PENNY !"
When are You going to be accountable ------- and Would you like to hear the tapes Commissioner Miller ?
It's about time somebody on the City dais put ----
their mouth where the Taxpayers' money went ?
There's already too much "pork" coming from the public dais. Look where some of the Commission's "pork barrel " spending went as you think about the City's HUGE looming deficit. How much of the "Road Sales Tax for Road Improvement & Maintenance Funds" go into the building of streets in private projects ---- such as the TownCenter?
Or, what about the phony take-over of Colt Drive in Tuscawilla, which they named for a member of "Khemlani's cronies". They were going to have to improve this "private" road with surfacing, sewerage, and sidewalks using your tax dollars on the take over of a private road. Watch what they are going to do with Orange Avenue when they grab that area from the County.
That is ALL just a BIG smoke screen for NEW developers to put in a commercial, office, and shopping centers with probably zero-lot-line housing behind them. Then the City would make the improvements. ParkStone/Stone Gable was a good example of this type maneuver. The people on the dais are very deceitful, and this was their clever way to help their developer friends by using the un-mentioned tax funds during their many deceitful maneuvers. Winging Hollow will probably be next. They're already closing in on both sides, and front of that sub-division.
Another one of their money wasting boondoggles for a FEW citizens was their dumb planning of "traffic-calmers" --- "lush green islands" ---- and very dangerous road easement banks that could result in many unnecessary wrecks by the irresponsible re-designing of an existing roadway. It was made hard for even school buses to navigate this blunder of a street "improvement" (?).
The street's name is "Fisher Road" down in ex-Commissioner McLeod's area where water, and sewage services were conveniently run through his property to replace what had been there for years. It wasn't for NEW development --- the City had run out of existing boundaries.
Oh yes ---- we forgot to tell you --- they're going to have to rebuild this blunder to make it more accessible. Oh well ---- it was just YOUR tax money --- and yes City Manager McLemore gets another pay raise!
If you think the raise was the only thing they gave the City Manager give some strong thoughts about another fiasco. They gave the City Manager over $35,000 MORE MONEY just to negotiate a new waste disposal pick-up service. Goodness, if the City hired a City Manager that couldn't do that on his own, with the help of his staff, you had better elect a NEW CITY COMMISSION that is qualified to even hire a qualified City Manager, or fire the one they have.
This City probably spends more on consultants than any other Central Florida city of similar size. Maybe the guy sitting in the City Manager's seat isn't qualified for the job. There has to be SOME reason for paying for all the outside consultant help he gets to run the City. He has the privilege to hire his own staff.
One would have to assume maybe better "high paid" staff selections must be made so the taxpayers can be assured to get their money's worth. The citizens probably are not even aware of ALL the outside help needed by the City Manager to run the City. He evens has to go outside for additional legal advice. Hmm -- wonder why the City needs a City Attorney for $225,000/year?
The Citizens of the City of Winter Springs pay the --
HIGHEST SERVICE TAXES IN THE COUNTY --
and has the largest bond debt !
( Plus ---- the City has the highest paid City Manager for a City the size of Winter Springs. He even thinks he is managing the City of Winter Park as he has written in his salary comparisons.)
