short-changed by city !

( firemen win labor dispute --- city appeals in court ! )

below is a copy of a Brochure used to entice the employment of firefighters for the city of winter springs.

Early 2000 advertisement phonyed up to con firemen to apply for a job --- by city manager McLemore

This is how it works --

Seminole Community College is used by the fire departments within Seminole County as a recruiting focal point.    The City of Winter Springs, finally, obtained funding to hire six new City firefighters.    The copy below was sent to Seminole Community College as the recruiting device used to attract firefighters to the City of Winter Springs.

The College acquired names of six firefighters interested in applying for employment in the City of Winter Springs.     This was based upon the information provided by the City, that was sent to the individuals.    They were recruited to fill out an application of employment based upon the salary range, benefits, and future with the City of Winter Springs.

The applications were filled out and accepted by the City.    However, this is where the glitch comes in that resulted in three of the six now having left the City Fire Department, and another is looking for another fire department to sign on with.     Why did these individuals take the measures of accepting employment only to leave shortly thereafter?     The answer is very simple --- they were given false information.    In other words, they had been scammed.    Here's what they were told when signing the contracts.

"The salaries indicated on the flyer would take effect shortly upon the signing of a new contract by the Firefighters' Union".

They were not told of the City's reluctance to sign any contract.    They were not told that this had been going on for three years.    In other words  --- they were told a lie!    They weren't told of the City Manager's fight against the Union, nor that the Fire Department was being pawned off, by the City Manager, to Seminole County.     Management of this City has no scruples or integrity !

The  proof  is  in  the  flyer  below --

The City was advertising a starting salary of $29,796.    The new firefighters, however, were started with only in the neighborhood of $25,000.

Obviously the City of Winter Springs doesn't believe in "Truth in Advertising".

why do we bother having elections, when the city manager controls the city ?
