People   For   Good   Government

Obtained the language that was on the petition to the City of Winter Springs that was passed out at the Highlands  Town Hall Meeting on February the 6th in the Highlands Elementary School on Shepard Road.     It is interesting to note that the commissioner whose district includes the Highlands, and LIVES IN THE HIGHLANDS did NOT even attend this meeting.

Why should she?   She works for a company that is in property management, and real-estate; and her no vote may go against any future revenue received from her employers company !    Is this why she is pandering to the Wildwood HOA that her employer's company provides professional property management services?

She doesn't represent the people she was elected to serve !

The Vote ----

Didn't we indicate above how McGinnis --- the so-called commissioner from the Highlands  --- would vote ?   The vote was four (4) for the money for their "Tiny Town", and one (1) for the people in the Highlands.    Let's see that would be around 3,200 people vs how ever many merchants in that cramped hump in the road called "Tiny Town".    This commission must have it's brains in the concrete over which more than ever cars will now be passing.    Traffic on Shepard Road, and in front of the school should triple with this vote.

Highland commissioner (should be ex-commissioner after her vote here) McGinnis was one of the LEADING FACTORS in this vote against her constituents.    One of those commissioners is even running for a County commission seat --- there goes the County !    That's all we need --- a Concrete County.

Yep --- she voted for her developer friend.    I guess now her management company will be asking THEIR buddy to manage the complex --- so McGinnis can reap her vote reward !

PETITION

"I am opposed to the proposed Large-Scale Comprehensive Plan Amendment Change as applied for by Keewin Real Property Company for the 47.27 acres owned by Walt Dittmer between Shepard Road and Florida Avenue in Winter Springs.    I believe changing the City of Winter Springs’ comprehensive plan to remove 47.27 acres of Light Industrial and PUD Commercial uses and replace with 47.27 acres of Medium Density Residential will adversely affect the city’s future ability to sustain itself as well as adversely affect the health, safety, and welfare of the existing residents of the Highlands community and surrounding neighborhoods.    This includes, but is not limited to, the negative impacts to traffic on roads (Shepard Rd., Sheoah, Blvd., & Florida Ave.), Highlands Elementary and other schools servicing the Highlands community children, recreational services, police and fire/rescue services, potable water, drainage, etc."

This petition has also been circulated via citizens on foot in the Highlands, but in essence reads as any other petition that affects the citizens of the City of Winter Springs.    Your City Commission, Mayor, and City Manager have no qualms in assisting the efforts of their developer friends regardless of the impacts that affect the citizens of the City.     PFGG has been pointing this out for eight years, but some people continue to elect these incompetents back into office.   The voters electing them are few.   The people need to get out and vote for their rights --- not just politicians with personal goals.

Remember --- they run for office for PERSONAL gain, as has been proven to be substantial in two cases, and they also use their positions to further enhance their steps into the higher echelons of government, as is being done this year by one of the seated commissioners.    They care less about the peoples plights, or problems.    Their goals are narrowly focus on self esteem and personal goals.    The Highlands problem is one that could take place ANYWHERE within the City.

The comprehensive plan amendment being proposed will allow the applicant to build up to 425 townhouses on the west end of Shepard Road near 17/92 in Winter Springs.    This area is very congested with traffic already, and the schools are already over or at enrollment.     With a potential for 1000 or more new citizens in this area that was planned for commercial businesses, there will be definite impacts to many of the items addressed in the petition.

Just like citizens in Tuscawilla who are fighting the negative impacts of a cell phone tower in their community, people in the Highlands are taking their fight to the streets to protect their way of life not just for themselves but for their children.     The petition language above shows you that these citizens are very concerned about the City’s total disregard for its comprehensive plan and the impacts that ignoring it will have for the future of citizens and school children not just in the Highlands but in all of Winter Springs.

Attend all commission meetings ---- SUPPORT YOUR FELLOW CITIZENS !

BE   SURE   TO   VOTE   IN   THE   2006   ELECTIONS !
