Paying For Dirty Water ?

The following email instituted the below search for the article validating its' contents.    This should also have the residents of the City of Winter Springs very worried and troubles as to the ramifications of Winter Springs aggressive annexation movement by its' city manager and approved by the past , and members still serving of that governmental body.

Little is known about the thirst quenching seeking of water to provide those annexations with water that was designed, and meant for the city prior to the McLemore movement to try and provide income for the fledging and failing town center --- now called "Tiny Town".

The city had to drill THREE wells in the Tuscawilla sub-division before they found ONE with sufficient water to pipe to the annexed eastern newly acquired boundaries.    Another case of a city government out of control and thirsting for financial income, which is leading to huge cuts within their top-heavy management and commissions' frenzy spending habits.     All city management and governmental personnel involved in this horrendous gluten of self sustaining wealth, and servants of developer cronyism should be fired or recalled!

Here is the email just received:

    To; People For Good Government

I don't know it you have been following the water situation in Oviedo...but the people in the Chuluota area and some other places are raising hell about the water situation.....they packed the commission chambers this morning.
Anyway the water company wants to raise the rates, and some of the people are already getting bill of 700.00 or more.   They are also getting water they don't dare drink because it can't meet federal standards.
Oviedo went on that crazy annexation program, gobbling up everything they could lay their hands on, without making sure the natural resources would support the growth....It won't and now they are in a whole world of hurt.
The reason I bring it up is because Winter Springs is fast approaching the same situation....If W/S keeps building like this the same problem is going to surely happen here too.    And Winter Springs water already tastes like @#$%^&&.    So much so that the animals won't drink it, they would rather drink from a mud puddle
Winter Springs and Oviedo draw from the same source for water. so what is happening there could impact what happens here.
Unless our elected official wake up.......they may find themselves facing a very angry populace like the commission in Oviedo
Just some food for thought ........

My Water Bill $804

It was standing room only in Oviedo Tuesday, where a local water company is asking for a hefty rate hike, and customers don't want to see that happen.

Aqua Utilities has been granted an interim 15-percent increase, despite failing to meet federal standards for water quality.

"It's like being raped, really," said one man who attended the meeting.

That's an ugly way to talk about a water bill, but it is how many in the packed meeting felt.

The residents who came to the meeting brought signs with them.

One sign said the family paid $790 a month for three people. Another sign said it cost $325 for two people. One sign put the one-month bill at over $800.

"I don't understand why my sister lives across the street and she pays $60 for good water and I pay $150 -- and it may go up to $300," said Marlo Kush, Chulouta, a resident.

The public hearing gave residents the chance to weigh in on a proposed rate hike by Aqua Utilities in the Chulouta area.

"We acquired this system in 2004. We inherited a lot of problems. Now, it's our problem and it requires investment to bring it up to standards," said Terry Maenza, of Aqua Utilities.

An interim hike is already in place and the final hike will either be approved or denied by the Florida Public Service commission in January.

In addition to the money, people packed the hearing because the water quality did not meet all of the federal guidelines. In fact, it failed to meet standards for a class of chemicals that have been linked to cancer.

Health experts said the risk of getting cancer was low, but parents said they were not buying it.

"We've contacted several agencies. They said, based on a 150-pound person, you need 15 years of exposure for a risk of cancer. But, what about a 20 pound child?" asked Terry Maenza.

Aqua Utilities said it is already constructing a system to clean the water that will be complete by the end of the year. They said that is one of the reasons they need to raise rates.

That emailer was absolutely correct, but there's more to the water story in the Oviedo area.    I guess it would apply to Winter Springs also, and both Orange and Seminole counties.  My guess is .....

This is only going to get a lot worse for Oviedo....Chuluota, as you know is close to the Orange County line.    If you drive through there into Orange County to the intersection of SR50 you will find that Orange is developing like crazy.    They are going to be drawing on the water system.    This could be a disaster for both Orange and Seminole Counties.   Water doesn't give a damn about city and county borders, it goes where it wants.....

If you think that's not accurate, just look what's happening in Texas.

Please withhold my name and address.    I could be getting one of those high water bills, and I am going to scream like hell to the State ... Feds... and anybody else that I have to.

Keep up the good reporting and work.    People had better start paying attention to these land hungry governments running out of control ....
